Additionally, the centre hosted an Indigenous school-based trainee at the centre management office, providing them with exposure to a wide range of centre management functions, including operations, marketing, leasing and customer service.

    To date, Grand Plaza has seen 17 young people successfully complete the program with three participants finding employment (one with a retailer at the Centre) and one reengaging at school. Participating youth are also supported by a case manager throughout the program and beyond. Community guest speakers, including centre management representatives and retailers, address the group to build young people’s connection to local opportunities and support services. The nine-week program tailors to individuals engaged in the program and provides access to core life skills and personal development workshops.

We benchmark our community investment activities using the Business for Societal Impact Group (Formerly LBG) framework. Vicinity's community contribution in FY21 ($) In FY21, we continued to broaden our multifaceted support of programs to build stronger, more resilient communities that not only address youth engagement and youth employment through our company-wide community investment program, but that leverage our centre networks to achieve a collective, greater positive impact. They organise and participate in local events, make financial contributions, provide in-kind goods, services and mall space for fundraising, and also leverage our consumers and retailers to make community initiatives more successful. Youth Connect will focus on the development of bespoke online training for selected Vicinity centre staff in order to equip them with the skills and confidence to reach out to youth in their local communities, form social connections and provide support.Įach of our centres maintains close connections with community groups to support Vicinity’s focus on supporting youth engagement and youth employment in their local communities, as well as other issues that are relevant to their catchment. Participants will then have the opportunity to be mentored by Vicinity Centre staff during work experience placements in our shopping centres, providing a potential pathway to future employment. The WorkREDi program will be trialled in selected centres across Victoria in FY22 and will provide up to 30 young people who are at risk, or have had contact with, the youth justice system, an opportunity to receive support, training and develop skills to help them overcome barriers to employment. The partnership will also leverage Vicinity’s national network of centres to support localised ARC community initiatives and fundraising opportunities allowing staff to participate in a range of volunteer opportunities.Ĭentral to the partnership is the implementation of Red Cross’ WorkREDi and Youth Connect programs which focus on addressing some of the challenges facing young people in the community. The ARC was selected via a competitive process, through which Vicinity sought a partner with a broad presence across Australia and a proven track record of creating a positive impact by supporting youth engagement, youth employment and building stronger, more resilient communities.
